Just upstream on the Potomac River from the Beltway in Virginia there is a beautiful park with trails stretching in all directions. Along the river the trail was densely packed with people. Back in the woods among the hills and valleys nary a creature was moving except for us quietly observing nature all around us. No one in sight I, let our two dogs off leash. As they scurried playfully chasing after the thrown stick, I kept a sideways glance going checking for approaching humans. Then I heard a gasp just as my partner alit with joy pointing skyward. In that instant toward sunset fire in the sky lay low upon the tree’s branches but for an instant. Me gazing at ground level. Her gaze roving heavenward beholding. Together we opened within this marvel.
From the gospel of Luke 24:45 “Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures…” This comprehension, appreciation, & recognition of the sacred among and between us ALL is the fire of heaven igniting through us. Such is the wonder of beauty, presence, and wisdom reminding us, re-setting our moods, re-enchanting us with the sheer fact of being alive with others, and re-igniting the inner alertness to the holy breathing life endlessly through us. Oh, if only we remember to look up and behold while also keeping our eyes upon the path offering opportunities for life’s next steps together.
In our hearts writ by God
The notes of hope/Grace notes
Composing and self-arranging.
As we love this gift/Love each other
And continue to learn/To love and appreciate
Our varied gifts, ways, insights, & expressions
Together, we can have our minds opened
By this presence/Beyond and yet deep within All.
In this vast and intimately personal space
Our lives, minds, and hearts can open TOGETHER
In this ignition/We “live, move and have our being.”
