Earth Day. Look into the face of creation. God revealed. Life sustained!!
What could be more obvious than caring for our mother & birther — our blue jewel of a planet. The handiwork of our Creator is art still-in-the-making. We, within this womb still gestating, are vital participants moment-by-moment in this tensioned & creative evolving drama: creation/re-creation, life/death, using what’s needed to exist/sharing abundance, blessing/being blessed. God continues to tend this garden of wonder by calling each of us to attend to this highest and greatest ethical/faith issue of our lives — caring for creation. Australia, on fire last summer. Global climate change. This one Koala, one expression of creation, looked in the face of care in the midst of unprecedented suffering. Two hearts softened. Suffering ameliorated. Life blessed!
Enacting our needs, rights, privileges, orientations have consequences for all life. Our “hardened hearts” reflected in our collective and individual behaviors are the root cause of our beloved planets stresses and strains. A parked truck we saw a few days ago had plastered all over every window decals: “Don’t tread on my rights!” This, a threat to “others” rooted in racism and fear, is also a cry of human need for empowerment expressed via self-limiting & destructive assumptions about who is “other” and what constitutes a threat. We can cease relating to the mosaic of life expressions as “other.” We’re not lost as we learn how to live together. In doing so our hearts are opened and softened.
Behaving and valuing life in certain ways is our salvation that saves all other life forms from our broken, heedless, and destructive mannerisms related to being present on our terms for our exclusive ends. Looking into the face of creation in any one of its expressions saves us and saves others. Working toward the salvation of life is our salvation.
To act justly includes being committed to caring for the green gift of ALL life on this blue planet. Loving this gift means we open our hearts and take in the turmoil and the ambiguities related to courses of healing action. Walking the path of justice in love entails us learning and confronting the deliberate dis-information disseminated by powerful super well-resourced lobbies and realizing our own individual and communal harmful tendencies.
- Justice involves the whole.
- Love is devotion to ends greater than personal gain.
- Walking means we are a presence empowered to make a difference.
Looking into the face of creation with opened resilient responsive hearts is our source of hope. Micah 6:8: “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” All species are ONE interconnected LIFE!
Conjoin with others.
See the blessed way blessing ALL.
Look into the face of creation.
Keep growing in wisdom enacted in behaviors that green the land and help the water be a rich and fecund blue.
Act, Love, Walk
