In our lives as we’re in challenging circumstances (like our C-19 times) there are many ways to be proactive in getting our lives back on track. Also there’s the reality that sometimes even though we understand so many things about what needs to occur for some desired outcome, the resolution fails to occur. In some situations we can understand so many things, but even then at the right moment in the right way the right coupling of events, communication between parties, or understandings of the nature of the events transpiring doesn’t happen.
Even more challenging are those times and circumstances of our lives in which we know there are challenges, but everything around us seems to be in a deep fog. The picture here is not fog. It is smoke from a very close at hand forest fire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area at the Minnesota border with Canada. Dear persons in our lives live on a lake in their lovely log home they built that is very close to this forest fire. We’ve visited countless times this prime jewel of a lake among the thousands of lakes in Minnesota. I see the smoke as a kind of fog that is one of the most challenging issues of our times. I see the smoke as a fog that makes it challenging to convince others we all must change together.
How do we convince others to live in a way so that climate change does not continue to be exacerbated by our human behaviors? We can be talking to others with a heartfelt commitment to illustrate we are not powerless, our behaviors do matter, and collectively there’s much we can still be doing to bless God’s creation. Our souls need to be in communion with creator God, each other, and the sobering facts that we collectively can still affect future outcomes in ways more favorable to all life forms. Psalm 42:7 from the NRSV: “Deep calls to deep…” God beckons. There is a way.
Job 28:12 from The Message: “But where, oh where, will they find Wisdom? Where does Insight hide?” All I can say is this: pray, observe, love, be engaged, learn something from everyone, stay the course as a student of life blessed by God, know we all carry ignorance within us, realize we can do something about the various expressions of ignorance, re-learn again and again the art of conversation. God is guiding us. There is a way!
