Bees came to GCCUCC, and the public was invited to join the hive! On Sunday, April 23 from 3 to 5 p.m., the children of GCCUCC hosted a Heifer Fair to have fun, raise money and raise awareness about the importance of bees. The money will be used by Heifer International, whose mission is to help people in need help themselves by providing livestock, trees, and honeybees -- along with training on how to raise these animals.
GCCUCC's Heifer Fair featured a beeswax candle craft, and a honey-focused bake sale, which are part of the fundraiser. In addition, there were free exhibits, puzzles and activities, as well as an observation hive from Bowie -Upper Marlboro Beekeepers Association. Donations can be made at the fair, or on the GCCUCC website on the give button.
A special thanks to Jan Derry and the children who planned, staffed, and made the Heifer Fair bee-utiful!
