This Sunday, October 26th is the second in this Stewardship Season! Our worship services will include “A Moment for Stewardship” featuring individual sharing about why members appreciate Greenbelt Community Church and choose to generously pledge and financially sustain this compassionate community.
Yolanda Burnett will offer “A Moment for Stewardship”, on this coming Sunday.
We welcome our Lay Readers, Dawn Revely and Jim Miers. We will have the blessing of an anthem by our GCC choir, under the direction of Dr. Wei-Der Huang.
Our hymns are: #360 NCH “Thuma Mina” (Send Me, Lord), #67 NCH “Let Me Enter God’s Own Dwelling”, both from the UCC New Century Hymnal and #72LEVS “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” from the AME hymnal Lift Every Voice and Sing.
I will preach the sixth in our sermon series of “God, Self, and Neighbor”, entitled “The Authentic Self: One Day At A Time” drawing on the texts: Psalm 84:1-12 and Luke 18:9-14. The Psalmist is extoling the majesty of being in God’s presence. The Lukan gospel is about meeting God in prayer with authenticity.
Last Friday, I gathered with about 30 others for a firepit on the church campus to celebrate the kickoff of our Sunday School! We roasted marshmallows for s’mores, grilled hot dogs and kept warm with hot chocolate. We corralled running babies, conversed with young parents and welcomed some visitors from nearby neighborhoods.

It was a lovely night of fellowship organized by the Board of Worship, chaired by Carla Crompton and Orville Burnett. Jo-Anne F, Anne G, Mike C, Jim M and Jan D, along with Lynn C, Rachel and David, Keith Johnson, Mary Alyce and Alex, Dawn and Onesty…and many others. A beautiful gathering!
I hope you noticed the stair blessing as you ascended from the church parking lot to the Church Office. Mike and Carla gave the gift of sprucing up, last week, by also painting the Pastor’s Office and adding my name to our church lawn sign…”supervised” by Ken V. Grateful!
Check out all the pics. Karen Y will post some of them to our GCC Facebook.
Finally, our friends at GILA asked me to share the following, http://www.greenbeltreparations.info/
“The Greenbelt Reparations Commission is hosting a stakeholders and community Town Hall meeting on Saturday, November 15th from 3pm to 5pm at the Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent Road to share the Greenbelt story and to hear suggestions from, especially the harmed community, African Americans and Native Americans who have been impacted historically… in relation to Housing, Education, Public Safety, Transportation, Recreation, Youth Development…to hear suggestions for repair and redress.
There will be breakout sessions, facilitated by Howard University Law students. Light Refreshments will be served.”
See you on Sunday, in person or online.
Beloved,
Pastor Aubra
