Grace and peace be with you this Eastertide.
As I look out the window of my office, I see that miraculous transition point between winter and spring. Some trees are still bare, others are leafing with fresh yellow-green color. If I look out other windows or walk around the church’s yard, I see the pinks of flowering trees and the yellows of daffodils.
This annual ritual of new life in creation coincides with our Easter proclamation and gives us hope. We see the possibility of new life right in front of us!
This church is in a transition time as the process unfolds to identify the next settled pastor.
Yet this church is also in an Easter time – a resurrection time – a birthing time. The transition time in a pastoral search does not negate our identity as people of faith.
The COVID pandemic has necessitated a period of dormancy for all of us. The virus is still part of our lives, but we as a nation as slowly peaking our heads out of the ground and seeing what our blooms look like after two years.
Those seeds that lay dormant are in fact blooming. They will become sturdy plants as we allow the Risen Christ, the Holy Gardener, to tend us, nourish us, and water us with Living Water.
Once upon a time, people of faith planted this church on this hill. Let us bloom as a people of faith in our generation. And let us bear fruit that will nourish our community through the power of the Risen Christ.
Grace and Peace
