Our Stewardship Season Begins

October 15, 2025 By Webmaster Leave a Comment

This Sunday, October 19th begins our Stewardship Season! Our worship services will include “A Moment for Stewardship” featuring individual sharing about why members appreciate this community and choose to generously pledge. I hope you will consider whether this is the time to make your voice heard about all things, great and small, that compel you to financially sustain this compassionate community. You may make your willingness known by contacting the Board of Worship. Sunday, we welcome our Lay Readers, Liisa Granfors-Hunt and Jan Derry. We will have the blessing of our GCC choir, under the direction of Susan Breon, as Dr. Wei-Der Huang offers a concert at the Smith Theater of Howard Community College.

I will preach the fifth in our sermon series of “God, Self, and Neighbor”, entitled “Book Learning and Sacred Secrets” drawing on the texts: Psalm 119:97-104, the Psalmist’s profession of love for the sweetness of God’s sacred instruction, and 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5, the Apostle Paul’s letter to Timothy regarding his pastoral leadership of the church at Ephesus. We will rejoice together in congregational singing of #85 NCH: “I Woke Up This Morning”/#237 NCH:  “I Come to the Garden Alone”/#319 NCH: “Sing Them Over Again to Me”.

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of meeting with The Greenbelt Interfaith Leadership Association (GILA). What a lively group of justice workers! As many of you are aware, this group calls together a monthly gathering of leaders and representatives from a full variety of Greenbelt faith communities to discuss contemporary faith issues in a friendly, productive atmosphere, to honor and strengthen our multi-cultural environment, to enjoy sustaining fellowship among us and the wider community. Finally, GILA collaborates on worthy projects. Greenbelt Community Church hosted the well-attended GILA Thanksgiving Eve service, last year. Some have asked me if we would host this year. A different faith community will host the 2025 Thanksgiving Eve service. It is the desire of the group to rotate among the interfaith group of hosts. This Thanksgiving Celebration supports GILA’s work toward the Greenbelt Emergency Assistance Fund. “This fund has done so much good work in the past year: https://www.greenbeltmd.gov/government/city-administration/finance/charitable-fund”

Of course, we are heartily encouraged to participate in the GILA Thanksgiving Service on November 26, 2025. See you on Sunday, in person or online.

Beloved,

Pastor Aubra
