There’s a song in the air!
There’s a star in the sky!
There’s a mother’s deep prayer
and a baby’s low cry!
And the star rains its fire
while the beautiful sing,
for the manger of Bethlehem
cradles a King!
This carol written by Josiah G. Holland in 1872 brings back memories of church services when I was young. This was one of my mother’s favorite hymns and was a frequent choice during the Christmas Season in my Methodist Church.
This coming Sunday there will be a “song in the air”. Our annual Christmas Concert will begin at 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 18th. It is a time to enjoy the timeless music of the season, take an intermission in the Social Hall and stock up on Christmas bake goods at the Bake Sale and return to the sanctuary for Christmas Relic Style with The Relics.
In many ways, music defines our celebration of Christmas. From Handel’s Messiah to “Here Comes Santa Claus”, we hear familiar music and sing ancient stories. We hear familiar music and our memories, even if beginning to dim, return to specific places with special stories. For one brief period every year, our background music is all about the story of God’s amazing Love for us all, the ability to give good things to one another, the joy of laughter, the memories that bind us together. There is a song in the air. Let’s sing!
