In John 18 Jesus says to Pilate some words that are straight talk, mattering truth, and revealing wisdom. “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.” To which Pilate responded, “What is truth?”
Straight talk: what occurs between people revealing the inner most workings of the heart. Mattering truth: truth that matters to the well-being of all living creatures and God’s creation we can be tending with utmost care, diligence, and forethought. Revealing wisdom: pointers, cues, suggestive insights as to how we can live in ways in which straight talk and mattering truth actually guides our individual and shared actions, hopes, dreams, desired outcomes, and responses to arising challenges
Truth can be seen and brought into focus. One of our church members is an artist who is learning to be guided by his inner intuitions allowing him to see what is becoming revealed in front him. In a room of his house there is a canvas with sketched penciled in lines guiding what will become paint strokes creating a painting he saw a long time ago in a magazine.
All of us are like this artist learning how to express the enlivening beauty of truth and the fullness of our Sacred Source revealing what is being brought into creation in truth, care, and love.
We first see intimations of what God is calling us to be. As we live into this that God reveals a whole new story emerges in our individual and shared lives. Sharing life together and living into God’s vision for us all enlivens ALL far into the future.
In our Greenbelt Community Church, UCC may we practice together the artistry of sensing the movements of God and then together live into this calling and see the true art emerge. Truth – what is it? Living from the heart in ways birthing life here and now with consequences rippling far into the future.
