Happy New Year a few days early! On Sunday, January 1, 2023, we will gather in worship and hear the familiar story of the Three Wise Men. We will also receive the bread and the juice of Holy Communion.
One of the lines in the Eucharist Prayer for this Sunday is: We bless you for the beauty and bounty of the earth and for the vision of the day when sharing by all will mean scarcity for none.
We can be part of that vision. There has been an announcement in the bulletin for the past couple of weeks about the needs of the Food Banks run by Help-By-Phone. We have had so many other announcements, this one may have gone unnoticed. The items that are in short supply and high demand are not the festival fixings. They are the staples of life. Therefore, giving our attention to these needs on January 1 and the weeks to follow is quite appropriate. Especially when part of our Communion prayer is that “sharing by all will mean scarcity for none.”
There is a shopping cart in the back of the sanctuary ready to receive your gifts for those in need. I am including the announcement so you know what kind of nonperishable food is in short supply. Thank you for caring for others.
Help by Phone
The Help by Phone pantry at Berwyn Presbyterian is running low on certain staple foods and would much appreciate donations to help fill the need. They need cans of beef stew, chili, pork and beans. Also, jars of applesauce and spaghetti sauce (plain is best), bags of rice, boxed dry milk, spaghetti and small boxes of Jell-O. Please, no mac & cheese, cereal, or Spam. Would anyone be able to help take donations to the church? Please contact Carol Griffith at carolagrif@msn.com or 301-633-4170.
