We’ve done this before – we can do this again.
This will be the second time I will be ending a tenure of being your pastor during a time of transition.
We know how this works. Sunday there will be a “change of address” for any thoughts coming from this “Young”. I started writing mid-week meditations during COVID. When I came back to Greenbelt I continued the practice. I thought then, and I know it to be true now, that was one way this church came back together after the trauma of the pandemic practices. I have appreciated your kind words about my musings.
After this coming Sunday you will be contacting your new pastor when you need to talk to someone or something has happened in your life. She will be doing the baptisms, the weddings, the confirmations, the celebration of life services. Please allow her to shepherd you.
For a period of time (we usually aim for a year) I will be reading but not responding to your Facebook postings. However, I have long since reached the point of quickly scanning social media while I ignore the many, many advertisements.
Some have asked “what are you going to do now?”. I have no direct answer – I never have. My ministry has evolved in its own good time and it has been a blessing to me. And I have plenty of partially finished projects around the house that deserve attention!
Over a period of two Interim assignments, I have served as your pastor and teacher for 5 ½ years. Every minute of it has been filled with joy. I have seen you grow (in some cases literally) and mature in your faith and your commitment to be a welcoming church in Greenbelt and neighboring towns. I look forward to watching (from a distance) where you go next and how you bear witness to God’s Love. Go get ‘em!
